Club Penguin is a unique gaming community for tweens. It is owned by Disney and offers many reasons for kids to keep coming back to play. Learn more.

There are many great places on the Internet for kids. These sites are safe and many times they are also educational. You have probably heard of Webkinz before, but another great site for kids ages 6-14 is called Club Penguin, which has been around longer than Webkinz. This site is quite similar to Webkinz, only you do not have to go to the store to buy a stuffed animal to play the games. Disney recently acquired Club Penguin, and this site is growing strong. Here is a closer look at Club Penguin.

Free Membership Vs. Paid Membership

If your child is interested in playing on Club Penguin, then the first thing you will want to do is to decide whether or not you want your child to have a free membership or a paid membership. With a free membership, your child can play for free, but will not have all of the access to every detail of the club. Your child can play some games, travel through the website and change the color of the penguins and their backgrounds. In addition, non-paid members can only have two red or blue puffins to use. A free membership may be an excellent idea if your child just wants to try it out.

The paid membership gives your child all access to the Club Penguin website. Children can purchase many accessories for their online pets including igloo upgrades, clothing, wigs and furniture. There are three different options for joining the club. You can opt to pay monthly for $5.95 a month, $29.95 for six months of play, or play for a year for $57.95. Gift certificates are also available to give to your kids or your friends.

Internet Safety

If you are like most parents, you may worry a lot about Internet safety. With Club Penguin, you do not have to worry. This online site is specially designed for kids and is ad free, so you don’t have to think about inappropriate pop up ads while your child visits this site.

In addition, unlike Webkinz, Club Penguin does allow chats, which are moderated. As a parent, you can set your child’s chat preferences. Club Penguin has the option for regular chat sessions, where your child can chat with other Penguin members. The standard safety chat allows kids to type their own messages, but the messages are filtered and only certain words and phrases are allowed through the chat. You can also set it to the ultimate safe chat that limits exactly what is said. This chat method has predefined words and phrases that can be used and that is all. This is the safest way for your child to chat on this site.

It is very easy to get started on Club Penguin. Simply go to the site with your child and choose your level of membership. From there, you and your child can start exploring the world of the penguins.
