Give your tween a good reason to gather some of her friends together and have a party. Self defense training parties are becoming more and more popular around the U.S., and it's never too early to teach your child how to stay safe. The parties mostly attract groups of girls, such as Girl Scout Troops, but are very important for the boys as well. Learn what is involved in hosting a party at your house or for your organization.

Why is Self Defense Training Important?

Kids need to learn how to defend themselves. There are many dangers lurking in our society today, including child predators and bullies. Self defense training is a way to empower your child with skills and techniques that could get them out of unsettling situations, especially when you cannot be around to protect them.

Why a Party?

Kids like any reason to have a party. Send out invitations just like you would for a birthday party. Have snacks and prizes, too! Of course, the main objective is to congregate as many kids as you can, so they all reap the benefits of self defense training together. Chances are, most families will be willing to split the costs for an in-home instructor once they know what the party is about.

What Do Kids Learn at a Party?

The kids will learn the techniques used in self defense. Examples would include how to use your voice as a weapon, punching techniques, when and where to kick an assaulter to enable you to get away the quickest, and other important points. Instruction is based on the age of the students, so they will be able to remember and implement what they have practiced more easily.

Tweens will also learn about products that they can carry with them that will help, if they are ever in danger. The Identakey and child identification kits are products that every family should have. Learn how to use them effectively.

The Cost

Prices usually range from $70 to $300 a party. Of course, that depends on how many participants there are, the location of the party, and if additional staff is needed to accommodate the kids.

Where Do I Find an Instructor?

Start by contacting your local YMCA. Also try contacting your local police department for information. There are companies, such as the Personal Protection Parties, who are trained specialists at teaching self defense. Visit their website for some really useful information on this subject.
