Tweens like to collect items for many reasons. What items are tweens collecting these days? Find out.
Tweens love to have collections of items just as much as adults. It is by the ages of 10 to 12 years that kids see the value in collecting things that are not only of sentimental value, but monetary value as well. While there are certainly more popular things to collect than others, tweens everywhere are collecting anything from stuffed animals to rare stones, and everything in between. So, what are tweens collecting these days, and what makes these items so collectible? Sports Trading CardsBoys are really getting to know about sports by the tween years. In fact, many of them have favorite leagues, teams, and players. It is no surprise that collecting sports trading cards is so popular among tween boys. What makes them fun to collect is the fact that they can be traded easily because many boys participate, and there is a thrill about opening a pack of cards to see if that one special player is going to show up. In order to keep sports trading cards in good condition, it is suggested to put the cards in protective sleeves and house them in a binder. This will cut down on wear and tear of the cards. Other trading cards, such as from movies or television shows, come and go, but sports trading cards are always somewhere to be found. That, combined with the sheer love for sports, makes these cards true collectibles. Peace SymbolsBoys and girls like to collect just about anything with a Peace symbol on it. Girls tend to gravitate towards jewelry bearing this popular emblem, while boys go for clothes and hats. Wearing the Peace symbol helps tweens recognize the fact that there is a common interest among this age group. It gives a kid a sense of belonging to see others displaying the same symbol. The same can be said for other emblems that have become popular with tweens, such as the Skull symbol or hearts. Just for fun, check out the history of the Peace symbol. It may be of interest to a tween who is really into collecting these items. Tweens start collections for many different reasons. It is a great way to have a hobby. A hobby gives a tween something to take interest in and keep at with a sense of commitment. Some kids collect because the time for dolls and toy cars is gone, and having a collection fills the void of playing with toys. Whatever the reason, collecting is something that is not only fun, but can provide much enrichment and give tweens a common bond with friends. Find more Parenting Tweens articles on Suite101.
